Greensboro Swarm News Release

(GREENSBORO, NC) -- The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, had a second midweek matchup against the Cleveland Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers affiliate) on Wednesday evening at the Novant Health Fieldhouse. The Swarm (7-13) fell to the Charge (11-7) by the score of 110-100.

In a seesawed opening half, Greensboro and Cleveland exchanged the lead 21 times. Neither team led by more than five points in the first two quarters. The Charge held a narrow three-point lead at halftime. The Charge's Sam Merrill, who scored 30 points in the last matchup between the two teams, led all scorers with 20 points at the break.

The third quarter swung in Cleveland's favor, as the lead expanded to 18 points by the end of the period. However, in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the final quarter, the Swarm's defense rendered the Charge scoreless and began to surmount a comeback. Clawing its way back into the game, Greensboro saw strong performances in the closing minutes from Kai Jones and Kobi Simmons. Ultimately the Swarm drew within seven points, the closest they had been since the second quarter, but were unable to topple the Charge by the game's end.

Six Greensboro players recorded double-digit point performances: Jones (18), Bryce McGowens (16), Simmons (16), Jalen Crutcher (14), Theo Maledon (12) and Isaiah Whaley (11).

The Charge's top performers included Merrill who led the way with a season-high 32 points, on 10-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc while Sharife Cooper picked up a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists. Cleveland also saw an impressive showing from Jamorko Pickett who gave the team 25 points.

The Greensboro Swarm will close out the month with a double header against the Maine Celtics (Boston Celtics affiliate) on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25 starting at 7 p.m. on both nights.
