DES MOINES, Iowa - The Mexico City Capitanes topped the Iowa Wolves, 124-116, on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

Alfonzo McKinnie was the leading scorer for Mexico City (14-6) with a season-high 33 points while former NBA standout Kenneth Faried posted 19 points and 14 rebounds and Skylar Mays tallied 15 points and 16 assists.

Craig Randall was the leading scorer for Iowa (6-14) with 24 points off the bench. Randall added a season-best eight rebounds and six assists. PJ Dozier finished with 20 points while Jordy Tshiminga added 14 points. Newly acquired Simi Shittu had 10 points in his debut for the Wolves.

Iowa dug itself into a hole with a poor second quarter as Mexico City built the deciding lead with a 39-20 scoring advantage. The game was tied at 25-all after one quarter.

The Wolves trailed by 25 at one point in the third quarter before fighting back to within 15 points going into the final period. Iowa pulled within eight points twice on two separate occasions in the fourth, but Mexico City countered with points from Faried and McKinnie.

Iowa begins a five-game road trip on Saturday night when it visits the South Bay Lakers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
