December 19, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced several moves in advance of this weekend's home games against Orlando. Defenseman Charlie Dodero has been recalled to the AHL's Syracuse Crunch, while forward Darian Dziurzynski has been returned to the club by the AHL's Binghamton Senators. In addition, goaltender Allen York has been activated from the 21-day injured reserve.
Dodero, 23, has collected three points (3a) and 39 penalty minutes in 19 games with the Swamp Rabbits this season. He signed a one-year AHL contract with Syracuse on September 2, where he spent 36 games last season and recorded five points (1g, 4a) and a +7 rating. His ECHL rights were previously acquired by the Swamp Rabbits in a deal with Idaho for future considerations.
A native of Bloomingdale, Illinois, Dodero debuted with Greenville during the 2013-14 campaign and collected two assists in 14 games. The third-year pro also registered 31 points (7g, 24a) in 77 games with Idaho over the last two seasons.
Prior to turning pro, Dodero played four seasons of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 2009-13. In 248 career contests, the 6'2, 200-pound blue-liner amassed 69 points (11g, 58a) and 286 penalty minutes with the Sudbury Wolves and Kitchener Rangers.
Dziurzynski (pronounced: z'yuhr-ZIHN-skee) recorded six points (1g, 5a) and a +6 rating in just eight games with the Swamp Rabbits earlier this season after being acquired from the Tulsa Oilers on November 12 in exchange for Emerson Clark. The 24-year-old also notched one point and a +2 rating in three games with Binghamton, including a goal in his Senators debut on November 28 against Rochester.
A native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Dziurzynski was initially signed to a two-year, entry-level contract by the Arizona Coyotes on March 8, 2013, and spent each of the last three seasons with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL). In 181 career games with the Pirates, he displayed skill (26g, 17a, 43 pts) and toughness (321 penalty minutes), and led the club with 183 penalty minutes during the 2013-14 campaign.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'1 204-pound forward played five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Saskatoon Blades and Brandon Wheat Kings from 2007-12. He amassed 161 points (92g, 69a) and 505 penalty minutes in 304 major-junior contests. In addition, he played alongside current Swamp Rabbits' forward Josh Nicholls for three seasons with Saskatoon.
Dziurzynski was originally selected by Arizona in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
York had been on the injured reserve since November 18 after playing five games with the Swamp Rabbits earlier this season. The 26-year-old signed a one-year AHL deal with Syracuse this past summer, where he spent eight games between the pipes last season. He also dressed 26 games with the Florida Everblades and posted a 17-5-3 record with a 2.63 goals against average, .903 save percentage and a career-high four shutouts.
A native of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, York played 11 NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2011-12 season, going 3-2-0 with a 2.30 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. He made his NHL debut on October 25, 2011 against Detroit and earned his first victory on March 28, 2012 against the Red Wings.
In addition, York boasts 48 games of AHL experience on his resume including time with Charlotte, Texas, Rockford, Springfield and Syracuse. The 6'4, 170-pound netminder owns a 23-15-4 record, 2.66 goals against average, .905 save percentage and three shutouts in those games. He has also taken the net in 62 ECHL contests with Chicago, Evansville, South Carolina and Florida.
York was selected in the sixth round (158 overall) by Columbus in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
