Americans Win in a Shootout 3-2

Boise, Idaho - The Allen Americans wrapped up a three game road trip as they played the Idaho Steelheads for the fourth time in their past five games, winning in a shootout, 3-2.
After a tough game last night, the Americans and the Steelheads met with some grit Saturday night, making good use of their few opportunities. With only four first period shots, the Americans scored on two of them. Chad Costello started off the scoring with his 11th of the season. Idaho thought they had turned around and tied things up immediately after. However, the officials overturned the original call, leaving the Americans up 1-0. Later in the period, Chris Crane put Allen up 2-0, and Vincent Arseneau finished up the first period with a fight against Andrew Carroll.
There were a few consistencies in the second period: offensive opportunities for Idaho, traffic in front of goaltender Riley Gill, and penalty kills. Idaho was in the Allen end the entire period, hence the amount of penalties taken. Jefferson Dahl and Rob Linsmayer cashed in, putting the Steelheads back into the game. Gill got a little heated late in the period as Idaho was in and around the crease the entire frame.
Riddled by even more penalties, the Americans kept things tied at 2-2 through the third period. With 49 minutes of penalties in regulation, highlighted by the game misconduct and eventual ejection of Ian Schultz, the Americans were able to stick things out, lasting into overtime. There were not many offensive chances in the third period, reminiscent of the other two periods, as Allen could only muster 12 shots in regulation.
Overtime settled nothing. As the game went to the shootout, Riley Gill stood tall in the net and Eric Roy finished things off for the Americans, capping off a 3-2 win in Idaho.
The Allen Americans return home Monday, December 21st, against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 P.M.
