Suns to Surpass 2002 Attendance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns anticipate surpassing its 2002 attendance mark on Thursday night, July 3 as the team hosts the Greenville Braves at 7:05 p.m.

Through Wednesday night's game, the Suns have welcomed 228,317 fans through the gates of the new Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Last season, in the final year of Wolfson Park, the Suns drew 230,156 fans.

"We are very happy with the way the community has embraced the new ballpark" Suns General Manager Peter Bragan, Jr. said. "We've tried some new promotions to bring people out and stuck with the ones we know works, and the baseball fans of Jacksonville have come out in droves.

The all-time Jacksonville baseball attendance record is 254,882, set in 1998, will be easily eclipsed this season as the Suns will still have 24 home dates remaining after Thursday night. The team is currently averaging 5,436 fans per game at the new Baseball Grounds.

Thursday's game will feature the Suns' annual Pre-Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular after the game against the Braves. The Suns will also celebrate team owner Peter Bragan, Sr.'s 80th birthday that night.

The Suns are also preparing to host the Southern League All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 8 at 7:05 p.m. This game will feature the best players from all 10 Southern League teams and marks the first time Jacksonville has hosted the event since 1988.
