Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham Barons are proud to announce that their radio broadcaster, Curt Bloom, will be calling four games for the Montreal Expos as they play the Atlanta Braves this Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6 at Atlanta's Turner Field

Bloom, in his 16th year of broadcasting baseball, will be the color commentator for each of the four games and will also being doing pre-game interviews and a couple of innings of play-by-play for each game. He will be on the air with Expos play-by-play announcer Elliot Price.

Over the past 12 seasons, Bloom has been the voice of the Barons. He has been a part of two Southern League championship teams (1993 and 2002) and was on the mic when Michael Jordan traded in his sneakers for spikes back in 1994.

Bloom, 40, won the Southern League Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1998 and was the co-winner in 1994. A graduate of UNC Greensboro with a degree in broadcasting, he was the voice of the Bakersfield Dodgers, Prince William Cannons and the Huntsville Stars before he coming to Birmingham. During the past 10 off-seasons, he has also worked select men's and women's basketball games for the UAB Blazers.

"My years in Birmingham have truly prepared me for this unique and exciting opportunity", said Bloom. "The atmosphere at the Met with the fans, players and front office staff has made this chance possible". He quoted Greenville Braves broadcaster Mark Hauser by saying, "This is not an audition but rather an opportunity to be in a major league atmosphere."

Filling in for Bloom for the next four games will be 101.1 FM "The Source's" Doug Bell. Bell will do his normal sports-talk show from 3 PM until 7 PM from the ballpark and then take it right into the game.
