Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The Mobile BayBears entered the ninth inning trailing the Diamond Jaxx 7-4 on Wednesday night and had the go ahead runners on base, but their rally came up short, as they fell 7-6. The BayBears, for the second straight night, lost an early lead to West Tenn. Mobile led 3-0 after the second inning, only to see the Diamond Jaxx score two runs in both the third and fourth innings to take the lead 4-3.
The BayBears tied the score in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. Mobile had the bases loaded with no one out, but scored only the one run.
The BayBears stranded 13 runners on base in the game, including two runners in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
West Tenn scored single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to take a 7-4 lead.
With one out, Jon Benick singled and Vince Faison doubled, putting two runners on. Catcher Humberto Quintero singled both runners home, making the score 7-6. Pinch hitter Ben Johnson drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Todd Donovan, who had his first three-hit night, hit a smash right back to the pitcher began a game ending double play.
The BayBears and Diamond Jaxx will play the finale of their series Thursday night at 7:05. LHP Roger Deago (5-5; 4.59) will start on the mound for Mobile against West Tenn's RHP John Webb (4-7; 3.84).
