Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â The Jacksonville Suns are in the final stages of preparation for the 2003 Southern League All-Star Game to be held at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville this Tuesday, July 8 at 7:05 p.m.
The game will pit the East Division against the West Division. Four Jacksonville Suns - Victor Diaz, Tommy Farmer, Joel Hanrahan and Edwin Jackson - have been selected to participate.
Along with the game itself, the Suns will be hosting a Sunset Cruise aboard the Annabelle Lee on Monday night as the first event of the All-Star Break. The All-Star Luncheon at the Adam's Mark Jacksonville will follow on Tuesday featuring legendary guest speakers Tommy Lasorda, long-time manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his one-time teammate and roommate Bobby Bragan, former Brooklyn Dodger catcher and manager of the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves.
Gates to the Baseball Grounds will open at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday for the All-Star Fan Fest. Fans can come early to watch batting practice, get autographs, receive a free All-Star Game T-shirt and compete in interactive games. Tickets for the Fan Fest can be purchased separately for $15 or in combination with a game ticket for $25.
The gates for the game itself open at 5:30 p.m. and all fans will receive a commemorative poster of the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Southern League Home Run Derby will take place before the game, featuring Jacksonville Suns second baseman Victor Diaz and five other All-Stars, including current league home run leader Jon Knott of the Mobile BayBears (San Diego Padres).
The Suns and AM930 The Fox will also be giving one lucky fan a trip for two to the Major League All-Star Game at US Cellular Field in Chicago. This game will also be the last chance for fans to see a fireworks show during the Independence Day season as the Suns will put on a post-game pyrotechnic extravanganza.
A Post-Game Party will be held at Benny's Steak and Seafood at the Jacksonville Landing following the All-Star Festivities.
Limited tickets for the All-Star Game, Fan Fest, Sunset Cruise, Luncheon and Post-Game Party are still available by calling the Suns ticket office at 904-358-2846 or online at www.jaxsuns.com.
