Lexington Legends News Release
(HAGERSTOWN, Md.) The Hagerstown Suns took their fourth consecutive win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night, 9-6.
The Suns took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run homer by Steven Souza Jr. and a sacrifice fly by Brian Goodwin.
The Legends rallied with four runs in the top of the third. Chan Jong Moon led off with a single to center field, and bunt singles by Delino DeShields Jr. and Nolan Fontana loaded the bases. Matt Duffy lined a bases-clearing double to the fence in center field to tie the game, and Justin Gominsky followed with a single, scoring Duffy and giving the Legends a 4-3 lead.
But the Suns scored twice in the fourth to reclaim the lead at 5-4. Back-to-back doubles by Brett Newsome and Jeremy Mayo produced a run, and Billy Burns' two-out single scored Mayo, putting Hagerstown in front.
Each team scored a run in the fifth, leaving the Hagerstown lead at 6-5.
The Suns added another run in the seventh on a solo homer by Newsome, who also had three doubles in the game.
The Legends scored a run in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to one at 7-6. Gominsky singled, moved to second on a sacrifice by Ruben Sosa, and scored on Jordan Scott's single with two outs.
Hagerstown built the lead to 9-6 in the bottom of the eighth on Souza's two-run double.
Hagerstown starter Taylor Hill (9-4) worked the first five innings and picked up the win. Ben Hawkins allowed three hits and one run through the eighth inning, and Aaron Barrett earned his 14th save with a scoreless ninth.
Nathan Pettus (1-5), who relieved Lexington starter Luis Ordosgoitti at the start of the fifth inning, gave up the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the fifth and was charged with the loss.
The Suns have taken the first four games of the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 1:05 p.m.
