PREVIEW: The Crawdads scored four runs in the second inning to defeat the Shorebirds 5-2 on Friday night. The Crawdads went hitless between the third and eighth innings, but still hung on for the win. The Shorebirds pulled within two runs in the sixth on a two-run homer by Nicky Delmonico, but did not get a runner into scoring position over the final three innings. The Shorebirds are 1-5 on the road in the second half.
SAWYER EXTENDS HIT STREAK: In his final at-bat in the ninth inning, Wynston Sawyer extended his hit streak to seven games with a single, which matches his season high (June 15-28). Sawyer has hit safely in 14 of the last 16 games.
27 OF 30: Connor Narron has reached base in 27 of his last 30 games played dating back to his first game played in June. He has hit safely in 23 of the last 30 games.
DELMONICO GOES DEEP: In his third at-bat since June 26, Nicky Delmonico launched a home run to right field last night. Delmonico missed nine total games after going on the Disabled List on June 28. He was activated last night, while Austin Knight was placed on the DL.
TOUGH SERIES FOR PLANETA: Mikey Planeta is 0-for-12 in this series against the Crawdads with five strikeouts. His batting average has declined from .277 to .257.
FIRST DAY OFF FOR DAVIS: Glynn Davis played in 24 straight Shorebirds games until a day off last night. It was his first day off since coming off the DL on June 8.
