Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 7, 2012) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators managed just three hits in a losing effort on Saturday night, falling 3-0 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Kannapolis, just two nights removed from scoring a season-high 17 runs, suffered its fourth shut out of the season.
Greensboro put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Matt Smith drew a walk and moved to third when John Schultz doubled behind him. Smith scored on a Josh Adams ground out, and Wilfredo Gimenez singled to plate Schultz, chasing Intimidators starting pitcher Myles Jaye from the game.
Jaye (3-6) suffered the loss, working 3 and 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on three hits with four walks and a strikeout. Greensboro starter Austin Brice (6-3) earned the win with five scoreless innings of two-hit ball. He struck out seven and walked two. Grasshoppers reliever Johnny Omahen and Brad Mincey combined for four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five between them. Mincey worked the final two innings for the save.
Greensboro added an insurance run on a Ryan Goetz ninth inning single.
The Intimidators wrap up this five-game series against the Grasshoppers on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Sunday games are Kid's Day presented by Zammitti Orthodontics with pre-game player autographs and post-game kids run the bases.
