KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 7, 2012) - Former Kannapolis Intimidators left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez will represent the National League in Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Gonzalez is 11-3 with a 3.01 ERA in 16 games (16 starts) as a member of the Washington Nationals this season.

The Chicago White Sox selected Gonzalez in the first round (38th overall) in the June 2004 First Year Player Draft, and he joined the Intimidators later that summer, making six starts for Kannapolis, going 1-1 with a 3.03 ERA. He opened the 2005 season as a member of the Intimidators rotation, going 5-3 with a dominant 1.87 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) before the White Sox promoted him to Winston-Salem. Gonzalez was named Chicago White Sox Minor League Player of the Year in 2007.

He made his Major League debut as a member of the Oakland Athletics on August 6, 2008, and was named to the American League All-Star team in 2011 as a member of the A's. In his MLB career so far, Gonzalez is 49-35 with a 3.79 ERA in 111 games (105 starts). The Floridian signed a five-year contract with the Nationals in January.

The Intimidators continue this week's five-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at CMC-NorthEast Stadium with games on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday (5:05 p.m.) to wrap up this home stand.
