(HAGERSTOWN, Md.) The Hagerstown Suns overcame one-run deficits in the seventh inning and the eighth inning and took a 3-2 win over the Lexington Legends Wednesday evening.

There was no scoring until the top of the seventh inning, when Lexington's Brandon Meredith hit his seventh home run of the year, a solo shot with one out. But Hagerstown answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh on a double by Justin Miller, an infield hit by Sam Palace and a bunt single by Bryce Ortega.

The Legends came back to take the lead again in the eighth. Singles by Justin Gominsky and Ruben Sosa and walks to Matt Duffy and Mike Kvasnicka forced in a run, and the Legends took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth.

The Suns answered quickly. Matt Skole led off the eighth with a home run, tying the game. Skole leads the South Atlantic League in homers with 19 and runs batted in with 70. After Murilo Gouvea relieved Evan Grills for Lexington, Steven Souza doubled to center field and moved to third when Caleb Ramsey flied out to right. Miller was intentionally walked, and Palace hit what looked like a double-play grounder to the shortstop, Moon, who threw to Sosa at second to force Miller, but Sosa's throw to first was low, allowing Souza to score the run that proved to be the winner.

Hagerstown starter Alex Meyer, the former University of Kentucky star who is on the USA roster for next week's Futures Game in Kansas City, pitched only the first two innings before being relieved by Christian Meza. Meza pitched four scoreless innings, and Richie Mirowski took over in the seventh. MIrowski (1-0), though he gave up both Lexington runs, was the winner.

Carlos Quevedo started and worked the first four and two-thirds innings for Lexington. Grills pitched two and a third innings and gave up two runs, including the homer by Skole, before Gouvea took over in the seventh. Gouvea (2-5) took the loss.

Game two of the five-game series will be played Thursday night in Hagerstown. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
