PREVIEW: Following their first series win of the second half (3-2 over West Virginia), the Shorebirds travel to L.P. Frans Stadium for the first time this season for a five game series. The Shorebirds scored four unanswered runs after falling behind 1-0 in the first to win last night, 7-3. Zach Petersime entered in the sixth inning and retired all 11 batters he faced to earn his first save.
FIRST SERIES WIN: The last series win prior to the most recent series was a two games to one series win over Lakewood between June 8 and 10. The last time the Shorebirds won a series of four games or longer was in late April when they beat Greenville three games to one (April 24 to 27).
TIED SEASON HIGH: The Shorebirds tied their season high with 15 hits last night. They also had 15 hits on April 15 against Greensboro in a 19-2 win. Five Shorebirds players (Webb, Esposito, Narron, Starr and Givens) had multiple hits last night.
SIX-GAMER FOR PLANETA: Mikey Planeta is a riding a six-game hit streak into game one against Hickory. His season long hit streak is eight between April 14 and May 16 (over two stints with the team). Planeta's average has gone up 16 points during the streak from .261 to .277. His .277 average is best on the team.
8 OF 9 FOR NARRON: Connor Narron has hit safely in eight of his last nine games. He has hit safely in five straight games (7-for-20, .350). Narron had five RBIs in the series against West Virginia. Narron has 33 hits in his last 27 games between June and July.
GIVENS ON RISE: Mychal Givens' batting average of .238 is the highest it has been since the second day of the year when he was batting .286. Givens has four multi-games in his last six games including a three-hit game last night.
