
Shorebirds Held to One Hit in 3-1 Defeat

Hickory, N.C. - The Delmarva Shorebirds' (3-10) only hit of the night came in the third inning as the Hickory Crawdads (11-3) took game one of the series 3-1 at L.P. Frans Stadium on July 4. Hickory pitchers Will Lamb and Mike McBride combined on the one-hitter.
The Shorebirds scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Wynston Sawyer extended his hit streak to five with a chopper through the left side of the infield. Then, Drew Robinson misplayed a potential double play grounder in the hole to put runners at first and second. Mychal Givens dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Then, Sawyer sprinted down the line to score on a wild pitch.
The Crawdads tied the score in the fourth inning. Rougned Odor and Trever Adams hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Then, Jorge Alfaro hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game.
Shorebirds starter Eduardo Rodriguez went five innings and allowed five hits and one run. He struck out four and walked one.
The Crawdads scored two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Jesse Beal. Drew Robinson and Rougned Odor hit singles to begin the inning. Two batters later, Alfaro singled to give the 'Dads a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, Jhonny Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
Crawdads starter Will Lamb allowed just one hit over seven strong innings. McBride entered in the eighth inning and struck out three over two perfect innings.
Ryan Palsha struck out two and walked two in a scoreless eighth inning for Delmarva.
The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game two of the series on Thursday, July 5 at 7:00pm.
