POWER REPLAY: West Virginia dropped the series finale at Delmarva 7-3 on Tuesday night. The Power led 1-0 after Alen Hanson's leadoff home run, but the Shorebirds knocked Ryan Hafner from the game in the home half of the first inning with a pair of runs. The Birds built a 4-1 lead after three before Jose Osuna hit a solo home run in the fourth. West Virginia trailed 4-3 after a run-scoring single by Elias Diaz in the top of the sixth, but Delmarva added three runs over the next two innings to cap the scoring. Hafner (0-6) took the loss as the Shorebirds took the series 3-2.
APPALACHIAN POWER PARK UPDATE: Despite recent storms in the Charleston area, Appalachian Power Park is at full power and received little damage due to high winds on Friday night.
TIME TO GET CRACKIN': West Virginia hosts Lakewood over the next five days and trail the all-time series 53-44 after splitting a four-game set last week in New Jersey. The Power have a 26-31 record at Appalachian Power Park after sweeping three games with the BlueClaws in Charleston from May 28-30.
HAPPY 4TH? The Power are 1-5 all-time on the Fourth of July and haven't won since 2005 against Lexington. West Virginia is 1-3 at home and has had one rainout (7/04/09 vs. LWD) on Independence Day.
ZVR ME ASAP: Zack Von Rosenberg will face the BlueClaws for the fifth time in his career when he takes the mound tonight. The right-hander is 1-2 against Lakewood with a 4.79 ERA. Von Rosenberg made four starts against the BlueClaws in 2011, allowing 13 runs on 24 hits over 20 and two-thirds innings pitched. Three of his four starts came at Appalachian Power Park, where he held a 6.17 ERA against Lakewood. Maikel Franco is the only current BlueClaws player who has faced Von Rosenberg (0-3 on 8/06/11)
ALL-TIMER: The Power's 21 hits in Sunday's win were the most by a West Virginia team in any single game since June 8, 2009. The franchise record for hits in a game is 25, set on June 12, 2007 at Hickory in a 24-13 victory.
5 FOR 5: Gregory Polanco became the first Power player in over three years to have five hits in a single game for West Virginia with his efforts on Sunday. Polanco reached base on a single, three doubles, a triple, and added a walk for good measure in a 15-10 Power victory. The last West Virginia player to reach base on five hits in a game was Robbie Grossman on June 18, 2009, at Hickory.
PROMO CHECK- TONIGHT: West Virginia's next BIG 12 promotional night is this evening at 7:05 pm against Lakewood. The team will host appearances by Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, and Foofa from Yo Gabba Gabba. The night will end with a postgame fireworks show.
POWER POINTS: Alen Hanson's hitting streak was stopped at 12 games with an 0-5 Monday night. Hanson hit .435 over his streak with two home runs and seven runs batted in... Ashley Ponce's four run Sunday was the first four run game by a Power player since Tony Sanchez scored four times in a game at Hickory on August 10, 2009... On Sunday, Willy Garcia became the first player drove in over a year to drive in five runs in a single game. Matt Curry was the last player to accomplish the feat (May 8, 2011 at Augusta).
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Last night, Pittsburgh rallied from a 4-0 deficit and walked-off with an 8-7 win over Houston. Drew Sutton hit a solo home run with one out to complete the comeback... Indianapolis beat Louisville 7-3... Altoona gave up two late runs and lost 3-2 at Binghamton... Bradenton slipped past Charlotte 3-2. Matt Benedict allowed on run over six innings in his best start as a Marauder yet... State College lost 6-2 against Batavia and travels to Tri-City for a game tonight.
