Suns Earn 50th Win on the Fourth of July

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (50-33) edged the Lexington Legends (43-40), 3-2, rallying for two runs in the eighth inning to take game one of the series at Municipal Stadium on Wednesday night.

Suns catcher Sam Palace knocked in the game winning run with an RBI fielder's choice in the eighth inning, adding to a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Third baseman Matt Skole cranked his 19th home run of the season, driving in his 70th RBI, both tops in the South Atlantic League.

Suns starting pitcher Alex Meyer left the game after pitching two scoreless innings with three strike outs. Lefty Christian Meza delivered four scoreless innings after Meyer, striking out five batters, before making way for Ritchie Mirowski. Mirowski earned the win in his Suns debut, allowing two runs over two innings. Aaron Barrett earned a share of the league lead in saves, notching his 13th with a scoreless ninth.

Legends' starter Carlos Quevedo did not factor in the decision, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings. Reliever Murillo Gouvea (2-5) suffered the loss, giving up both runs in the eighth inning. Left fielder Brandon Meredith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run for the losers.

The Suns will play game two of the series against the Legends on Thirsty Thursday, presented by Benny's Pub, at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Mike Foltynewicz (9-2, 2.51) takes the mound against Suns righty Chris McKenzie (2-2, 7.58)
