Asheville Tourists News Release
The only thing possibly more amazing at McCormick Field than the Tourists 8-4 win over the GreenJackets was the post-game Fireworks Show by ABCCM and Asheville Savings Bank. A sellout crowd watched fireworks light up the Asheville night sky after their team took care of business on the diamond.
Tyler Anderson went 5.2 innings to earn his seventh win of the year. Anderson allowed just one unearned run and the offense provided plenty of run support.
Asheville jumped out to an early lead in the first. Trevor Story doubled and later scored on Will Swanner's single to center. The Tourists then loaded the bases but could not manage to put a crooked number on the scoreboard.
Taylor Featherston blasted his fifth Home Run of the year in the third; a two-run shot over the left field wall making it 3-0. Augusta answered with a run in the fourth that came on a throwing error by Story.
The GreenJackets rallied in the fifth by putting runners at second and third with nobody out. Anderson worked out of the jam without allowing any runs and Swanner led off the bottom of the fifth with his tenth Home Run of the season.
Leading 4-1, the T's broke the game open in the seventh. Asheville received an RBI single from Harold Riggins and one from Chandler Laurent. The Tourists also saw runs come home on an error by Shawn Payne and a wild pitch from Derek Law.
The game remained 8-1 until two outs in the top of the ninth. Payne came to the plate with two on and crushed a Nelson Gonzalez delivery over the centerfield wall for a three-run bomb. The Home Run allowed by Gonzalez was his first of the season and only the tenth of his professional career; which now spans 287.2 innings pitched.
Gonzalez was called three times in the ninth for "going to his mouth while on the mound" which resulted in three automatic balls. Nelson bounced back after the Payne Home Run by striking out Ben Thomas on three pitches and sealed the win for the home team.
