Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 29, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators walked a season-high 11 batters, falling 10-5 to the Hagerstown Suns on Sunday evening at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Suns used a 6-run sixth inning to surge ahead of the Intimidators, and five of the Suns' 10 runs came from batters who reached base on walks.

Hagerstown's Bryce Harper, the 2010 No. 1 overall draft pick by the Washington Nationals, went 1-for-3 with a solo homerun (11) in his first trip to Kannapolis.

Kannapolis starter Dexter Carter (0-1) took the loss for the Intimidators, going 4 1/3 innings in his first start of the season, allowing three runs on three hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Carter pitched for the Intimidators in 2009 and led all of Minor League Baseball in strikeouts when he was traded to the San Diego Padres in the July 31 deal that brought Jake Peavy to the White Sox. He joined the Intimidators from Extended Spring on Wednesday.

Hagerstown left fielder and former Catawba College product Wade Moore hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot to lead off the fourth inning, giving the Suns a 3-1 lead at the time. Harper added his blast in the fifth off Wes Whisler.

Suns starter Matt Grace (5-4) earned the win, allowing four runs on seven hits in seven innings of work.

Kannapolis and Hagerstown play a doubleheader on Monday, May 30, at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium starting at 1:05 p.m. The Intimidators will send Paul Burnside to the mound in Game 1 with Phil Negus scheduled to start Game 2 of the twin bill.
