Tonight: The first place Gnats, SAL affiliate of the New York Mets, begin a three-game series and a seven-game home stand against the Charleston RiverDogs, SAL affiliate of the New York Yankees.

Last Night: The Augusta GreenJackets scored three unearned runs in the first two innings against starters Yohan Almonte on their way to a 3-2 win which snapped the Gnats' six-game winning streak. CF Darrell Cecilianiwas 2-3 with a double and a walk and an RBI and SS Wilfredo Tovar was 2-2 with a walk and two runs scored.

Now Pitching: LHP Chase Huchingson is scheduled to make his third straight start and his 10th appearance as a Sand Gnat tonight. Huchingson has won consecutive starts, yielding a combined four runs, three earned, on seven hits with five walks and 15 strikeouts in 10 innings. The last time he faced Charleston, he fanned a season-high eight in earning his first win of the year. Huchingson pitched for the Kingsport Mets in the Appalachian League in 2010, going 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA in five games, including two starts. In 11 innings pitched, he gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits and five walks while fanning 13. The Mets signed Huchingson as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Central Arkansas in 2010. Huchingson was an outfielder and a pitcher for the UCA Bears. He hit .236 in 89 AB and on the mound, was 1-4 with an 8.36 ERA in 10 starts and 13 appearances overall, with 32 strikeouts in 42 innings. Huchingson began his collegiate career with two years at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Gnats are 3-1 when Huchingson starts and have supported him with 4.50 runs per game.

Roster Update: The Gnats have swapped pitchers each of the last two days. Sunday, RHP Erik Goeddel was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain and LHP Adam Kolarek was promoted from Extended Spring Training. Kolarek, who the Mets drafted in the 11th round in 2010 out of the University of Maryland, was 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in five appearances for advanced-A St. Lucie this year. In 7.1 IP, he gave up 13 hits and four walks to account for six runs, all earned, while striking out three.

Marvelous May: After going 8-14 in April, the Gnats are 17-9 in May. The pitching staff has a 2.09 ERA, a 3.2 K/BB ratio (225 K/70 BB) and a .212 opponents' batting average. In April, the Gnats had a 4.64 ERA and a 2.5 K/BB ratio and a .278 opponents' average. The Gnats also have four position players hitting over .300 in the month of May: Luis Nieves (.429), Cory Vaughn (.359), Alonzo Harris (.317) and Robbie Shields (.316). Vaughn has hit .359/.512/.533 with ten extra-base hits, and 21 walks against 19 strikeouts in 26 games.

About Last night: The Gnats committed three errors, and allowed three unearned runs... The Gnats are 8-9 when committing two errors or more in a game. ... the #2 and #3 hitters, 2B Robbie Shields and RF Cory Vaughncombined to go 0-for-8... the Gnats fell to 8-7 in one-run games, 6-2 at home and 2-5 on the road.

Standings Update: With 21 games to play in the first half, the Gnats own a game and a half lead over the Lexington Legends and Greenville Drive for first place.

Strong Arms: The Gnats have the SAL's best ERA (3.22) and WHIP (1.23). Savannah's 409 strikeouts are fourth in the SAL.

Versus Charleston: The Gnats are 1-2 against Charleston in 2011. The two teams are scheduled for eight games in Savannah and seven in Charleston. The Gnats finished 9-4 against Charleston in 2010, 3-1 at home and 6-3 on the road.
