Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats took advantage of five Charleston RiverDogs errors to beat the 'Dogs 4-3 Sunday night at Historic Grayson Stadium in front of 3,069 fans on Military Appreciation Night.

Tonight was the fifth time in 22 home games that the Gnats announced a paid crowd of over 3,000 fans, already equaling last year's total when the Gnats announced crowds of over 3,00 only five times all year in 66 openings.

On the field, the Gnats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. LF Rafael Fernandez and DH Blake Forsythe drew walks, sandwiched around a stolen base and a Charleston throwing error to put runners at the corner with two outs. 1B Joe Bonfe delivered a bouncing single through the left side to bring home Fernandez with the game's first run. C Albert Corderothen lined a single into right field, scoring Forsythe for a 2-0 advantage.

The RiverDogs scored a run in the fifth on a wild pitch from starter Chase Huchingson and evened the game at 2-2 against reliever Angel Cuan in the sixth. Huchingson gave up just one run on five hits in five innings, walking one and striking out six.

The Gnats broke a 2-2 tie with two unearned runs in the seventh, thanks in large part to three Charleston errors, two on reliever Nathan Forer.

Reliever Josh Edgin entered with the tying run on base in the eighth, slammed the door, and then fanned two more in the ninth for his eighth save.

The Gnats will start RHP Gonzalez Germen (3-1, 3.5-) against Charleston RHP Shane Green (2-4, 5.04) Memorial Day Monday at 12 noon. Gates will open at 11 AM. The broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 11:50 am.
