
BlueClaws Top Shorebirds 4-1 in Game One

Lakewood, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (26-23) scored three runs in the sixth inning and pitched their way to a 4-1 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (27-23) in game one on Memorial Day at FirstEnergy Park. Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino went 0-for-4 against the combination of Scott Copeland and Randy Henry. He struck out in the first inning and in the seventh.
Jesse Biddle and Scott Copeland were locked in a pitcher's duel through four scoreless innings. The Shorebirds plated the first run of the night in the fifth inning. Riley Hornback reached on a one out walk and stole second base. Then, on a line out to right field, Hornback tagged to third and Anthony Hewitt threw wide and up the left field line to allow Hornback to score.
The BlueClaws took their first lead of the night in the sixth inning. Geancarlo Mendez was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Jim Murphy then skied a double to the right field wall to score Mendez from first. Back-to-back groundouts by Hewitt and Domingo Santana scored Murphy to give Lakewood a 2-1 edge. Carlos Perdomo, who reached on an error, came into score on a single by Torre Langley.
The BlueClaws added the exclamation point in the eighth inning on a home run to left by Santana to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Biddle (3-5) earned the win in seven strong innings. He allowed four hits and one unearned run. Copeland (4-3) was pinned with the loss in six strong innings. He scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run.
Lisalberto Bonilla nailed down his third save of the season in a scoreless ninth inning.
Randy Henry allowed just one run in two innings of relief.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws will play game two of the series on Monday afternoon at `12:05 p.m. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled starter.
