Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers (4-9) dropped a series-opener for the first time this season Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium, returning home to an 11-5 defeat at the hands of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (4-9).

Houston Astros top catching prospect Korey Lee opened the scoring by leading off the second inning with a solo shot to left field, his second homer. Sugar Land would bat 12 times in the frame and score six more runs, which included doubles from Pedro Leon (two RBI) and Lewis Brinson (RBI), and a two-run single by Lee to give him three RBI in the inning.

The Rainiers immediately fought back in their side of the second however, when Joe Odom (RBI) and Marcus Wilson hit consecutive doubles with one out, before a Sam Haggerty two-out, two-run homer to left, his first of the year to trim the Space Cowboys lead to 7-3.

Sugar Land restored their lead to a touchdown in the fourth, using four hits and a walk to score three times. JJ Matijevic (double) and Michael Papierski (single) were among the RBI knocks.

Trailing 10-3 in the home fourth, Wilson blasted a no-doubter solo shot to lead off the half inning, his second homer in as many games after a three-run shot in the 12-11 win on Sunday at Albuquerque.

Each club added a single tally in the ninth. Alex DeGoti led off with a double, and scored the Space Cowboys' 11th run after a pair of groundouts. Haggerty led the bottom of the ninth with his third hit, eventually scoring after a walk and a Zach Green RBI groundout to give Tacoma five.

The series will continue on Wednesday at 6:05 PT. RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon will get the ball for Tacoma, opposite Sugar Land RHP Hunter Brown.

Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2022 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every home game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
