Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (7-6) could not overcome a six-run eighth inning, allowing 18 hits in their 10-4 defeat to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (9-4) in Tuesday's series-opener.
After falling behind 2-0 early, center fielder Luis González first got Sacramento on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a towering 421-foot home run to right field that was 109 MPH off the bat.
The game did not stay tied for long, however, as a single, a walk, and a single with an error from González led to two runs off right-hander Kervin Castro (0-1).
Two innings later, the Dodgers stormed Sacramento righty Luis Ortiz for six runs on six hits in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Sacramento starter Sean Hjelle ran into trouble for the first time this season. The right-hander, who threw 53 of his 79 pitches for strikes, allowed two runs on a walk and eight hits (one being a home run).
Oklahoma City second baseman Eddy Alvarez ignited the offense early, singling home shortstop Zach McKinstry for the game's first run, and homering off Hjelle to make it 2-0 in the third.
Lefty Enmanuel De Jesus (0-0, 7.11) draws the Wednesday afternoon start. He'll take on righty Beau Burrows (0-0, 4.15) at 12:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
Additional Notes
Right fielder Jaylin Davis lined his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the eighth inning off righty Yency Almonte. Davis finished the day 2-for-4 with a single, a walk, and the home run.
First baseman Jason Krizan also left the yard, homering for the first time this season with a liner down the right field line in the ninth.
