Suarez strong in 1-0 loss in Altoona

(Altoona, PA) - Reading Fightin Phils (25-33) starting pitcher Ranger Suarez turned in one of his best outings of the season as he struck out nine batters in seven innings. He wouldn't receive a decision as the Altoona Curve (28-27) won 1-0 on a walk-off RBI single Tyler Gaffney in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Fightin Phils were shutout for the second straight game as their scoreless innings streak extended to 18 innings. Reading went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven base runners on the base paths. Curve starter Taylor Hearn also didn't factor into the decision despite striking out nine batters in seven innings.

Edgar Garcia (5-2) took the loss as he gave up the RBI single to Gaffney in the ninth inning. Jeff Singer pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning as he struck out two batters while issuing one walk. Austin Bossart finished the game hitting 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

Sean Keselica (2-0) earned the win for Altoona has he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.
