Hamilton, ON - Coming off a 3-1 loss to the league-leading Erie Otters, the Steelheads made their way to Hamilton Saturday night to face the Bulldogs for the fourth time in just under a month. The Steelheads have won all three meetings between the clubs this season, outscoring the Bulldogs 11-4. The Bulldogs entered tonight's game coming off a 3-2 win on the road over the Sudbury Wolves.

The first period saw a number of great chances at both ends as each team looked to swing the momentum in their favour with the opening goal. The Bulldogs looked to establish their physical dominance early on as Niki Petti stepped up with some big checks. Connor Walters would head to the box on a holding call, giving the Steelheads a power play opportunity at 3:29 of the first. Despite a number of good chances, the Steelheads couldn't find the back of the net and the game returned to even strength. Approaching the midway point of the period, Mississauga native, Matt Strome would open the scoring, sneaking his third of the season past Jack Flinn. Petti and Cole Candella picked up the assists. With time winding down in the first, Mississauga would have their second power play opportunity of the game as Josephy Mizzi took a delay of game penalty. That power play however, would be short lived as Michael McLeod took a slashing penalty a few seconds later that would send the game to 4-on-4. The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission; shots on goal were 10-6 in favour of Mississauga.

4-on-4 action continued to start the second period before Hamilton would see a 35-second man advantage. The Trout successfully killed that off and the game returned to even strength early in the middle frame. There was an obvious shift in momentum coming into the second as the Steelheads buried three consecutive goals to turn the game around. Luke Kutkevicius put the Trout on the board with his second of the season at 5:29 from Brendan Harrogate and Ryan McLeod. With Benjamin Gleason in the box serving two-minutes for delay of game, the Steelheads would strike again Michael McLeod buried his 10th of the season from Nathan Bastian and Stefan LeBlanc. Marcus Dickerson then gave the Steelheads a two-goal cushion, netting his second of the season from Stefan LeBlanc and Everett Clark. The Steelheads took a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission. Shots on goal were 19-17 in favour of Mississauga after forty minutes of play.

After scoring three unanswered goals in the second, the Steelheads would come into the final frame with a more conservative approach. They maintained their two-goal lead throughout the period with a strong defensive effort to keep the Bulldogs at bay. Hamilton would pull Connor Hicks from the goal at 16:45 in favour of an extra attacker. Despite a last minute frenzy in front of Jack Flinn, the Steelheads were able to clear the zone as Alexander Nylander sealed the deal with an empty-net goal for a 4-1 victory. Sean Day and Stephen Gibson drew the assists on Nylander's 17th of the season.
