Gwinnett Stripers News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The Gwinnett Stripers were swept in a doubleheader by the Norfolk Tides by scores of 4-1 and 7-4 Monday night in the first two games of a four-game series at Harbor Park.
In the first game, the Tides scored four runs on only four hits. They took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third off Gwinnett starter Luiz Gohara when Steve Wilkerson hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Gohara, who only allowed a hit and a walk over 2.2 innings, exited after Wilkerson's at-bat with an undisclosed injury.
Gwinnett tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth as Tyler Smith smashed a two-out double to right and scored on a single to right by Ronald Acuna Jr., playing in his fourth rehab game with Gwinnett from Atlanta.
However, with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourth, the Tides took a 2-1 lead as pitcher Miquel Socolovich misplayed a ball hit to the mound, enabling Joey Rickard to score from third.
The Tides then plated two in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Rex Brothers. One of the runs came home when Brothers walked former Brookwood High School star Cedric Mullins with the bases loaded and the other on a sacrifice fly by Wilkerson for a 4-1 final.
Socolovich tossed 1.1 innings with two hits, one unearned run, one walk and three strikeouts; The unearned run kept a streak alive to 22.0 innings without allowing an earned run, though his scoreless streak ended at 20.1 innings. Brothers pitched 1.1 innings with one hit, two earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts. Jacob Webb got two outs without allowing a baserunner.

The Tides were led in game one by Rickard and Garabez Rosa who were each 1-for-2 with a run apiece.
In the nightcap, Norfolk jumped on Gwinnett starting pitcher Andres Santiago in the bottom of the first inning for three runs. The first crossed on a passed ball off the mitt of catcher Sal Giardina with a man on third, and the other two on a two-run double to right by Drew Dosch.
Norfolk added a run in the bottom of the second on a sac fly by Wilkerson to push the lead to 4-0 and then made it 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer (8) by DJ Stewart off Santiago.
Gwinnett made a push in the top of the sixth started by Alejandro Salazar, making his Triple-A debut, doubled off the wall. An infield single by Xavier Avery and a walk by Preston Tucker loaded the bases against Norfolk reliever Andrew Faulkner with no outs. Michael Reed then drew a bases loaded walk scoring Salazar to cut the lead to 5-1. Paul Fry entered from the Tides bullpen and he gave up an RBI single to Carlos Franco and a two-RBI single to Smith to make it 5-4.
But out of viable pitchers, the Stripers had to call on catcher Rob Brantly to pitch the bottom of the sixth. He gave up an RBI single to Pedro Alvarez and an RBI double to Chance Sisco, putting the game out of reach.
Santiago (L, 2-3) went 5.0 innings in game two with seven hits, five earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts. Brantly pitched 1.0 inning with three hits, two earned runs and one walk.
