INDIANAPOLIS - After allowing eight runs over the first two innings, the Indianapolis Indians rallied to pull within one before stranding the tying run at third base in the bottom of the ninth in an 8-7 loss to the Gwinnett Braves on Friday night at Victory Field.

The defeat snapped the Tribe's win streak at seven games, which ranked tied for the third-longest stretch in Victory Field history.

Indians starter Adrian Sampson (6-4) was chased after allowing eight runs on 12 hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work. His replacement, Collin Balester, took over with a lights-out effort to retire 13 of 14 Braves (30-30) batters over 4 1/3 scoreless frames.

While Balester cruised, Alen Hanson tripled home two runs and scored, and Elias Diaz plated three more with his second home run of the last three games.

Gustavo Nunez capped a four-run fourth with an RBI single that brought the Indians (39-24) within one run.

Diaz again reached in the ninth, this time also taking second on a throwing error by the pitcher. Pedro Florimon replaced Diaz as a pinch runner, tagged to third on a flyout to right field and was stranded as the tying run just 90 feet from home plate.
