Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE) - When the Charlotte Knights open the gates to BB&T Ballpark during their six-game homestand next week, the team's Uptown Charlotte kingdom will welcome its one millionth regular season Knights fan. With a total of 990,275 fans coming through the gates in 103 regular season Knights games, the one millionth fan could enter the ballpark on either Tuesday, June 16 or early on Wednesday, June 17. The Knights need to welcome 9,725 fans to BB&T Ballpark to eclipse the one million regular season mark.
"This is very special," stated Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. "For us to welcome one million regular season Knights fans to BB&T Ballpark in such a short time is a true testament to our great fans, Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, and the entire region. We look forward to meeting our one millionth fan next week."
A year after leading all of Minor League Baseball in attendance with a mark of 687,715 fans through 71 regular season home games, the Knights are once again on top of the attendance standings this season. Through 32 regular season home games in 2015, the club has welcomed 302,560 fans through the gates - an average of 9,455 per game - also tops this season.
When the one millionth Knights fan walks through the gates of BB&T Ballpark next week, the Knights will reward that person with the following:
- Personalized Knights Jersey
- Autographed Knights Baseball
- Upgraded Royalty Row Tickets for that night's game
- $1,000 Diamonds Direct Gift Card
- A BB&T Ballpark Personalized Brick
- 2 Tickets to the WBT Skyshow Game on July 4
- 2 Tickets to the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game
In just a little over a year from the grand opening of BB&T Ballpark on April 11, 2014, the Knights are on the cusp of breaking through the one million fan plateau. However, Knights fans have already shattered the million mark in ounces of Pepsi soft drinks (3.362 million) and ounces of beer (10.633 million). By season's end, the team also expects to break one million in pounds of the official Charlotte Knights hot dog (Sahlen's) served with more than 708,000 pounds consumed by hungry spectators heading into the upcoming homestand.
The Knights open their six-game homestand on Tuesday, June 16 and welcome 1973 American League Cy Young Award-winner "Spaceman" Bill Lee to the ballpark for a special meet and greet courtesy of The Principal Financial Group. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday as the Knights will host the Pawtucket Red Sox in game one of a three-game series. Tuesday's game also marks another Twitter Tuesday at the ballpark presented by BB&T. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
On Wednesday, the Knights will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the movie Caddyshack and welcome actor Michael O'Keefe to the ballpark courtesy of The Vue. O'Keefe, who played Danny Noonan in the classic movie, will sign autographs for fans during a special meet and greet. The Knights will also have a wide variety of Caddyshack related prizes to give away, including the Al Czervik golf bag. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
Single-game tickets for these games, as well as all remaining games this season, are available by phone at 704-274-8282, online at www.charlotteknights.com, or in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office.
