Danks' Double Lifts Pigs over Tides in 14, 1-0
June 12, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Jordan Danks' two-out RBI double in the top of the 14th proved to be the only offense the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (22-41) would need in a 1-0 win in 14 innings over the Norfolk Tides (34-27) on Friday night at Harbor Park.
Russ Canzler scored the eventual winning run for the IronPigs on Danks' double after reaching on a leadoff single and moving to second on a sac bunt earlier in the frame.
The win snaps a seven-game losing streak for Lehigh Valley.
RHP Seth Rosin (2.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 2 K) got the win for the Pigs to move his record to 2-1 on the season. LHP Pat McCoy (1.2 IP, 2 H, R, ER) was dealt the loss for the Tides and falls to 1-2.
LHP Jake Diekman (1.0 IP, H, K) notched his first save of the year for the IronPigs as he got Christian Walker to fly to right to end the game with runners at the corners and two outs in the bottom of the 14th.
Pigs LHP Adam Morgan and Tides RHP Michael Bowden traded zeroes through the first six innings.
In fact, the Pigs didn't have a hit off Bowden until Canzler's (2-6, 2B, R) leadoff double in the seventh.
Morgan got a no-decision after scattering six hits over six shutout frames while walking three and striking out one.
Like his counterpart, Bowden also received a no-decision after he allowed just the one hit to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in seven innings of work.
LHP Cesar Jimenez (3.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K) and RHP Hector Neris (2.0 IP, 2 K) combined to toss five scoreless innings in relief for Lehigh Valley.
The Tides had the winning run at third with nobody out in the bottom of the 12th after a leadoff bloop triple by Paul Janish that landed just past the outstretched glove of a diving Dom Brown in right field. However, Rosin was able to wiggle out of the jam and send the game to a 13th inning.
The series continues on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Joely Rodriguez (2-6, 6.36) gets the ball for the Pigs against Norfolk RHP Zach Davies (3-4, 2.80).
