Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders scored six early runs and cruised past the Red Wings on Thursday night, 9-2.
GETTIN' FIGGY WITH IT: Cole Figueroa hammered a pair of doubles on a 3-for-5 night with an RBI and two runs scored. Since his 0-for-3 day dropped his average to .184 on May 11at Norfolk, he has gone 37-for-96 and has led the league with all four slashes over that time: .385/.433/.573/1.006.
HIGH NOONAN: Nick Noonan posted a pair of hits and scored twice. He has dominated in the month of June, going 15-for-34 (.441/.486/.647/1.134) with five extra-base hits and eight RBIs in nine games played. His June average leads the IL while his OBP, SLG and OPS rank 2nd to Louisville's Josh Satin.
HOME COOKING: Starter Kyle Davies (5-3) allowed two runs over 6.1 innings to post his first home win of the season. He has won each of his last three decisions over a four-outing, three-start span overall. Four starts into his SWB tenure he stood 2-2 with a 6.20 ERA. Since then, he has gone 3-1 with a team-best 2.87 ERA.
#WINNING: The RailRiders have won four straight and nine of 10. They stand a season-best eight games above .500. The SWB franchise has not stood that tall since the 2012 IL North champion SWB Yankees finished the year at 84-60.
TROUBLE AT HOME: The RailRiders stand four games below .500 at PNC Field (15-19) and 12 games over on the road (20-8). The team has hit .282 on the road compared to a .251 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 144 runs in 28 games (5.1/game). At home, the squad has plated 120 runs in 34 games (3.5/game). The pitching has performed better on the road (3.26 ERA) than in Moosic (3.35 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.714), who have won 13 of 14 away from PNC Field.
TURN THE BEAT AROUND: Despite the season-long numbers, the RailRiders have trended better at home of late. They have won a season-best three straight games at PNC Field. That has not happened since the 2014 squad won four straight in Moosic from July 31-Aug. 3.
THE AIR UP THERE: Mason Williams went 4-for-12 during the Buffalo series with a double and three RBIs. Yesterday, he was called up to the New York Yankees. He departed SWB with hits in six straight games, going 9-for-22 (.409) with three walks (.480 OBP). After five-plus pro seasons and 443 games played below the Triple-A level, he spent three weeks and 20 games played with SWB before getting the call to the Bronx.
RED WINGING IT: The RailRiders have lost 11 of their last 13 games at Rochester's home, Frontier Field. That hurt the team en route to a 5-11 performance against the Red Wings last season. The SWB franchise had not logged a losing season against Rochester since the 2007 unit also went 5-11. The RailRiders have lost 18 of their last 25 against the Red Wings overall going back to 2013 and stand 2-4 against the Red Wings this season.
OFF THE RAILS: Other roster moves yesterday saw Caleb Cotham activated off the DL...In his second SWB outing this season, he fired a scoreless ninth with a strikeout against a Red Wings club that had his number during his first two tours of duty with SWB...He had 4G/3GS against Rochester in his career before Thursday, going 0-2 with a 16.20 ERA, 3.30 WHIP and .449 BAA...Ramon Flores rejoined the RailRiders after hitting .269 with the New York Yankees including a three-hit effort on Tuesday...He picked up two RBIs and collected an outfield assist when he nabbed Danny Santana attempting to leg out a double in the seventh...Five RailRiders enjoyed a multi-hit effort last night with Kyle Roller going 2-for-5 night with a three-run double...He leads SWB in RBIs (32) and the IL in walks (36).
