Seattle Storm News Release
SEATTLE, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 - The Seattle Storm today unveiled plans for the team's radio broadcast format for the 2007 WNBA season, the team's 8th in Seattle. Sandusky Radio's KKNW 1150 AM has been named as the team's radio broadcast partner for the 2007 season. Terms of the deal are undisclosed.
KKNW 1150 AM, an alternative talk station, is also home to University of Washington's Women's Basketball and the Seattle Thunderbirds.
"We are so proud at Sandusky Radio, especially KKNW 1150 AM to be part of the Seattle Storm family," said Marc Kaye, Vice President and General Manager of Sandusky Radio. "With the play by play on KKNW and our other stations including MOViN 92.5, WARM 106.9, Smooth Jazz 98.9 and AM 880 KIXI involved with great promotional opportunities, it looks to be a great partnership between Sandusky and the Storm."
This season's all new radio broadcast will offer fans a mixture of Alan Horton's play-by-play announcing, coupled with analysis of the Storm and the WNBA stemming from Adia Barnes, former Storm forward and member of the 2004 WNBA Championship team. 2007 marks Horton's first season covering the WNBA after spending seven years as the play-by-play announcer for many teams, including baseball, football, men's basketball and women's basketball, at San Diego State University on The Mighty 1090 AM. Horton also spent time on the San Diego Padres broadcast during the team's 2005 season. This is also Barnes' inaugural season with the Storm broadcast team after having played for the Storm organization in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Barnes previous broadcast experience includes her works as a television analyst for NBA Entertainment during the 2006 FIBA Women's World Basketball Championship in Brazil.
"As we look forward to the 2007 Storm season, we're thrilled about our new partnership with KKNW 1150 AM and Sandusky Radio," said Karen Bryant, Seattle Storm Chief Operating Officer. "I'm also very excited to be introducing Alan and Adia, to Storm fans, as our new broadcast team. David Locke and Elise Woodward were the voices of the Storm for seven and six years respectively, and their support and dedication to the team will always be appreciated."
The 2007 Storm radio broadcast will be supplemented by interactive features, including daily blogs and pod casts, available exclusively at storm.wnba.com. Fans can also log on to the team's web site to hear weekly updates from head coach Anne Donovan. The new radio broadcast will debut on KKNW 1150 AM at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11 when the Storm close their preseason schedule against the Sacramento Monarchs at KeyArena. All 34 of the team's regular-season games will be broadcast on KKNW 1150 AM.
The 2007 Storm season will open against the Houston Comets on Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m. The following Wednesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at KeyArena. The defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock will visit KeyArena on Wednesday, June 20.
