Shock announces 2007 preseason schedule

The Detroit Shock announced its 2007 preseason schedule today in preparation for the franchise's tenth WNBA Season. The 2006 WNBA Champions will open the preseason with a four-team scrimmage against the Minnesota Lynx, the Houston Comets, and the 2006 Western Conference Champion Sacramento Monarchs on Monday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m. CT in Las Vegas. The Shock last played the Monarchs in the 2006 WNBA Finals, with the Shock winning the series three games to two.

The Shock will then travel to the Lubbock, Texas - home to Plenette Pierson's alma mater, Texas Tech University. In doing so, Detroit will take on WNBA All-Decade Team performers Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson and the rest of the Houston Comets on Friday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. CT.

The preseason schedule also features a homecoming for Shock guard Katie Smith who played collegiately at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Detroit will play host to Alana Beard and the Washington Mystics at Columbus's Nationwide Arena on Sunday, May 6 at 1:30 p.m. ET. In Detroit's last game of the preseason, on Sunday, May 13, newly acquired center Katie Feenstra will take her first crack at her old team at 1:30 p.m. when the Shock host the San Antonio Silver Stars at Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m. ET.
