Tri-City Storm News Release
Urbandale, Ia. - After taking a two-goal lead in the second, the Tri-City Storm allowed five straight goals to the Des Moines Buccaneers, dropping, 6-3, Saturday at Buccaneer Arena.
John Marino, Wade Allison and Alex Limoges scored for the Storm. Mattias Goransson (2a), Allison (1g, 1a) and Limoges (1g, 1a) had multi-point games.
Tri-City is tied with Lincoln for first place in the Western Conference at 67 points.
Dayton Rasmussen made 20 saves in defeat. Jan Ruzicka had 16 saves to best the Storm.
The Storm got off to a quick start, scoring twice in the first half of the opening frame. First, on the power-play, the defenseman Marino joined the rush, received a pass from Jake Wahlin to the right slot and potted his fourth of the season at 6:36. Goransson took the secondary helper.
About three minutes later, Goransson used the wall to spring Allison on a breakaway. Playing it off the defensive zone half-wall glass, Allison picked up the puck at center and shouldered through the defense. The winger shot it to the top left pocket for his 23rd of the season, ranked second on the squad. Limoges, who won the face-off, received the other assist at 9:08.
The Bucs' Zach Jordan scored the first of four Des Moines second-period goals at 4:03.
Limoges scored his 13th of the season at 12:17 of the second on the man up. Dan Labosky and Allison set up the play. Both Labosky and Allison played important roles; Labosky shuffled a half-wall pass to Allison, allowing the Western Michigan commit to crash it net front to a diving Limoges. On one knee, the Cornell commit tallied.
The Bucs scored three goals in the next 3:12 to jump in front, 4-3.
Des Moines added two more goals in the third for the win.
The Storm penalty kill held the Bucs to 0-for-4, killing off a 5-on-3 chance in the first. Tri-City's penalty kill hovers around 86 percent, top-five in the USHL.
