Omaha Lancers News Release
Fargo, ND - Denis Smirnov scored twice for the Fargo Force as they defeated the Omaha Lancers, 3-0, on Saturday night in front of 4,221 fans at Scheels Arena.
Fargo took a 1-0 lead after one period just like they did in Omaha's win on Friday night. Below the goal line, Force forward Blake Lizotte took the puck and skated from behind the net out to his offensive zone right wing circle. Lizotte fired a shot on net that was stopped with the right leg pad of Lancers goaltender Zackarias Skog. The rebound sat to Skog's right and Denis Smirnov flew in to tap the puck in for a 1-0 lead and his 25th of the year. The goal was assisted by Lizotte and Griffin Foulk and came with only 1:52 left in the opening period.
Just over mid-way through the second period Fargo took a two-goal lead off the stick of Smirnov for his second of the night. From the left wing circle, Smirnov ripped the puck off the inside of the bar and in for the 2-0 Force lead. The goal was Smirnov's second of the night and 26th of the year. Blake Lizotte had his second assist of the game while Grant Meyer was tallied with the secondary helper at 10:20 of the middle frame.
The only goal of the third period came with Omaha's net empty. Niko Hildenbrand fired the puck in from center ice for his ninth goal of the year and a 3-0 Force lead with only 1:22 left in the game. The three-goal advantage held up as the final and Lancers goaltender Zackarias Skog stopped 28 of 30 in his 11th loss of the year.
The Lancers are on the road next weekend for a 3-game set. Friday and Saturday in Youngstown at 6:05 p.m. CT and Sunday in Chicago at 3:00 p.m. CT. Can't make it? Fans can listen live to the game on News Talk 1290, Omaha Lancers Mobile App, www.mighty1290koil.com, and www.FASTHockey.com.
