Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Des Moines erased a two-goal lead after the first period to come back for a 6-3 victory over the Tri-City Storm on Saturday.

The Tri-City Storm used their fifth ranked power play unit to get on the board as defenseman John Marino picked up his 4th goal of the season on an odd man rush 6:36 into the period. Wade Allison would double the Storm's lead to 2-0 at the 9:08 mark moments later when a pass from Mattias Goransson and Allison slipped behind the D for a partial breakaway which he converted past Buccaneer goaltender Jan Ruzicka. Each goaltender in the first made 7 saves but the extra two shots taken by Tri-City were the difference as they lead 2-0 after twenty minutes.

Zach Jordan started the 2nd period off strong for the Buccaneers as he took a feed to the left of goaltender Dayton Rasmussen and beat him 4:03 into the second period to cut the lead to 2-1. Tri-City would regain their two goal lead with another power play goal, this time from Alex Limoges, at the 12:17 mark of the period. The Buccaneers would respond with a furious finish to the frame and get the last three goals of the period starting with Ty Pelton-Byce and Alec Rauhauser starting a rush up the left wing side and then Pelton-Byce sent it over where Patrick Grasso buried it at the 13:22 mark of the period. Kobe Roth got his first USHL goal as he set up shop in front of the net and when David Keefer took the puck behind Tri-City's goal line Kenny Hausinger moved it as quickly as he received it from Keefer and Roth tapped it in out front. A night after scoring his first USHL goal Mark Senden picked up another and scored in a similar spot as Roth's goal, out front and to the right of Rasmussen, at the 15:29 mark of the period.

The two teams were in a tight one goal game until late when Nikita Pavlychev went in on a one on one and took it below the goal line before centering it in between the circles where Wyatt Bongiovanni scored high on the blocker side of Rasmussen at the 15:56 mark of the period. For the second night in a row Patrick Grasso added an empty netter go give his squad a 3 goal lead and Des Moines came away with the 6-3 victory. Ruzicka had 16 saves in the win while Rasmussen had 20 saves in the loss.

Up next for the Buccaneers is a home contest vs the Waterloo Black Hawks on Tuesday, March 29th.
