Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms topped the USNTDP U18 team for the second time in six days by a final score of 3-0. It was the Phantoms first shutout win of the season.

Youngstown drew first blood on the power play against USA. Phantoms Captain Matt Alvaro cut through the slot and beat USA netminder Jake Dettinger for his 10th tally of the campaign.

The Phantoms would double their advantage just seconds later, when Alex Esposito broke free down the left wing and blew a wrist-shot past Dettinger for his 11th goal this year. Dettinger was replaced by Joseph Woll after letting up a pair of quick goals.

Both teams would play a highly contested second frame, with each goaltender making a handful of quality saves to keep the Phantoms advantage at two. Youngstown would break through in the final minutes of the period, when Garrett Hall jammed home a rebound on the doorstep for his 4th tally of the season.

The two sides played a scoreless third period with the Phantoms suffocating team USA's top line. Ryan Bednard earned his first USHL shutout, turning aside all 22 USA shot attempts.

Youngstown will be back in action at the Covelli Centre next weekend against the Omaha Lancers. Friday is Local Business Night, and Saturday is Hometown Heroes Night. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. both evenings.
