Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Green Bay Gamblers' number came up Saturday as the visitors notched a 4-2 win at Young Arena against the Waterloo Black Hawks.
Each team held the lead during the first period, with Green Bay striking first when John Leonard batted a rebound chance out of midair and into the net at 7:39. Yuri Terao answered for the Black Hawks during a power play at 10:07. Terao's stick broke on a one-timer set up by Sam McCormick, but the puck still flew past Adam Huska.
Kevin Charyszyn put the Hawks in front with a goal in transition at 13:47. The puck hopped away from Charyszyn for a moment, but he got it back in time to lift it past Huska's glove. However, Sam Saliba tied it on the power play at 16:36, knocking in a backdoor pass from Nick Poehling.
The scoring pace slowed in the second, and Green Bay recorded the lone goal. An errant shot came off the end wall, setting up a Jack Poehling tally from the bottom of the right circle at 8:06. That goal proved to be the difference.
Huska continued to stop the Black Hawks' looks; after 13 saves in the second period, he made 12 more in the third. The Green Bay netminder finished the game with 34 stops. Ryan Blankemeier added an empty-netter with 1:03 to play.
The Hawks play three Western Conference opponents for the final time during the regular season next week. Tuesday, Waterloo visits the Des Moines Buccaneers before making their way to Lincoln to face the Stars Friday. Back on home ice Saturday, the Sioux City Musketeers will be on hand for a tilt with the Hawks at Young Arena.
