
Storm Drops 5-2 Decision to Buccaneers

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm dropped a 5-2 home decision Friday night at the Viaero Center to the Des Moines Buccaneers to open play in a three-game weekend. Luke Posthumus and Dallas Vieau scored for Tri-City in the loss. The Storm returns to action tomorrow night in another home game against the Buccaneers. Puck drops at 6:05pm CT.
Braden Rourke opened the scoring in Friday's contest with a shorthanded goal netted at 11:51 of the 1st period. The goal was his second of the season, and was assisted by Davis Borozinskis. Luke Posthumus scored his second goal of the season twenty-seven seconds later to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. The goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Seth Constance. Friday's 1st period ended in a tie, with the Storm outshooting the Buccaneers 8-5.
Ashton Dahms gave Des Moines a one-goal lead with his sixth goal of the season only forty-seven seconds into the 2nd period. Ilya Protas notched an assist on the scoring play. Brady Smith's first goal of the season gave the Buccaneers a 3-1 advantage in the matchup at 7:40 of the middle period. Dallas Vieau responded with his seventh goal of the year for the Storm at 10:35 of the 2nd period to bring the score to 3-2. Vieau's goal was assisted by Cam Briere and Shaun McEwen. The Storm outshot the Buccaneers by a 13-5 margin during the 2nd period, but trailed by a single goal entering Friday's final period.
Braedon Ford netted his tenth goal of the year at 9:13 of the period to give Des Moines a 4-2 lead in the battle. The goal was scored on the powerplay, and was assisted by Jack Kernan. The final goal of Friday's contest was scored into an empty net by Garrett Drotts with less than two minutes to play. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 30-20 overall in the game, despite being outshot by a 10-9 margin during the 3rd period.
Cameron Korpi recorded the loss in goal for the Storm after making 15 saves on 19 shots during the contest. Jonathan Reinholdt collected the win in net for the Buccaneers in a 28-save-on-30-shot performance. The Storm dropped to 17-13-3-4 on the 2023-2024 regular season in Friday night's three-goal home loss to the Buccaneers.
The Storm hits the ice again on Saturday, February 3rd, in a home game against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Puck drop for the matchup is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.
