
Powell's Hat Trick Leads Saints Over Steel in OT

DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (25-9-2-3, 55 pts), led by Noah Powell's first-career hat trick, defeated the Chicago Steel (15-17-3-2, 35 pts) 6-5 on Friday night in front of a sold-out ImOn Arena.
On his 19th birthday, Powell opened the scoring for the Saints 1:47 into the game and added another in the opening period to boost the Saints to a 4-1 advantage after the first frame. Then, in overtime, Powell finished the game with his 21st goal of the season.
The Saints led from Powell's first goal early in regulation until Hudson Gorski tied the game at five with 6:38 left in regulation. Dubuque held leads of 4-1 and 5-3 in the game, but surrendered both to force overtime.
Jake Sondreal scored his 18th on the power play for his league-leading 51st point of the year, while Jayden Jubenvill added his sixth to round out the scoring in the opening frame. Juraj Pekarcik tied his career-high with four points on Friday, scoring once and adding three assists.
Kevin Reidler made 16 saves in his 16th win of the season, the second-most victories in the USHL. Jubenvill and Fisher Scott each played in their 100th-career USHL game for Dubuque on Friday night.
Dubuque is off for the remainder of the weekend and is back on the ice at home against Cedar Rapids on Friday, February 9.
