Madison Capitols News Release

A late third period goal for Waterloo sent Madison home with a 4-3 loss on Friday night. Andrew Kuzma(x2) and Brendan Lamb were the goal scorers for Madison, but the team's effort was not enough in the first game of a three-in-three.

Andrew Kuzma scored twice on Friday night to mark his fourth and fifth goals over the past six games. Kuzma is now second on the Capitols with 15 goals this season. The Maine commit sits eight back of the team leader in that category, Austin Burnevik, who sits two back of the Tier I Capitols goal scoring record of 25 set by Alec Broetzman in 2017-18. Burnevik was held off the scoresheet on Friday night.

On Kuzma's first period tally in last night's game, Shawn Ramsey registered his first USHL point in his second game with the Capitols. Ramsey, who was playing in his 30th caeer game in the league after playing 28 games with Chicago during the 2021-22 season, registered the only assist on the goal finding Kuzma well up ice. Ramsey registered 15 points in 33 games with Philadelphia, NAHL, before being acquired by Madison on January 26.

In a game where he tied Robby Fosdick for the fourth most games played in Capitols franchise history on Friday, Brendan Lamb found the back of the net for his fifth of the season. For Lamb, the goal gives him 22 in his USHL career, but more importantly, he now sits just seven games back of second place in franchise history for games played.

Aiden Long forced the turnover beneath the goal line on the Lamb goal in period number two to tie the game at 3-3 against Waterloo on Friday. For Long, the point gives him ten on the season, the thirteenth Capitol to hit that mark this season. Long is part of an impressive 2023 Phase II Draft Class for the Capitols that includes eight of the team's first ten selections on the current active roster.

Also in that 2023 Phase II Draft Class for Madison was Nathan Tobey. Tobey and his defensive partner Colton Jamieson partnered up on assists on Andrew Kuzma's second goal of the night for Madison. For both defenders, it becomes the sixth assist of the season, a career high for Tobey who played in his 94th career USHL game on Friday night.

The Capitols will have a chance to bounce back Saturday night in Green Bay as they face off against the Gamblers. Puck drop in that game is scheduled for 6:05 pm at the Resch Center.

Following the game in Green Bay, the Capitols will return home on Sunday to face off against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05 pm with it being the team's second Skate With The Capitols event of the season. Tickets can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
