
Storm Defeats Lancers 6-3 at Viaero Center

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Omaha Lancers by a final score of 6-3 Saturday night at the Viaero Center to improve to 20-13-4-4 on the 2023-2024 regular season. Tri-City's victory was the team's fourth consecutive over Omaha this season. Jake Rozzi (10, 11), Vladislav Lukashevich (8,9), A.J Lacroix (9), and Artemi Nizameyev (9) netted goals for the Storm during the matchup. Goaltender Cameron Korpi recorded his 19th win of the season in net for Tri-City. The Storm will now embark on a five-game road trip before returning home to host the Lincoln Stars on Saturday, March 2nd 2024, for the organization's annual Kool-Aid Night Game. Will Elger netted his eighth goal of the season at 10:03 of Saturday's opening period to give the Lancers a one-goal lead on the road. Nick Pierre and Nicholas Sykora each collected an assist on the scoring play. The Storm responded with two goals in the final five minutes of the 1st period to take the lead in the rivalry matchup. Jake Rozzi scored his tenth goal of the season at 15:50 of the opening period to bring the game to a 1-1 score. Vsevolod Logvin and Philippe Blais-Savoie each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Vladislav Lukashevich scored his eighth goal of the year with less than a minute to play in Saturday's 1st period to give Tri-City a one-goal lead in the matchup. Artemi Nizameyev and Cam Briere each notched an assist on the scoring play. Lukashevich's goal was scored on the powerplay. Tri-City outshot Omaha 17-5 during the opening period, and the Storm carried a 2-1 lead into Saturday's 2nd period. The Storm's 17 shots on net during Saturday's opening period set a new season-high for the team for most shots on goal during the 1st period. Tri-City previously held a 14-13-0-2 record when leading after the 1st period this season.
Vladislav Lukashevich scored his second goal of the game, and ninth goal of the season at 8:41 of Saturday's middle period to give the Storm a two-goal lead in the matchup. The goal was assisted by Trevor Connelly and Vsevolod Logvin. Thirty-seven seconds after the Storm's #37 Lukashevich scored his ninth goal of the season, A.J. Lacroix netted his ninth goal of the year to give Tri-City a 4-1 lead in the battle. Charlie Kinsman collected an assist on Lacroix's even-strength scoring play. The Storm outshot the Lancers 19-4 during the 2nd period, and Tri-City entered the final period of Saturday's contest with a 4-1 lead. The Storm previously held a 15-0-2-0 record when leading after the 2nd period this year.
The Storm's first goal of Saturday's final period was netted by Jake Rozzi at 6:13 of the period. Rozzi's goal was his second of the game, and eleventh of the season. Charlie Kinsman notched an assist on the scoring play. Nick Pierre scored two goals during the 3rd period for the Lancers. His first was netted on the powerplay at 9:21 of the period. The goal was his fourteenth of the year, and was assisted by Jamison Sluys and David Deputy. Artemi Nizameyev responded for Tri-City with his ninth scoring play of the season. The goal was netted even-strength, and was assisted by A.J. Lacroix, and Philippe Blais-Savoie. The final goal of Saturday's rivalry matchup was scored by Omaha's Nick Pierre with less than five minutes to play. The scoring play was his second of the night, and fifteenth of the year. Will Elger and Drew DellaSalla each recorded an assist on Pierre's goal. Tri-City outshot Omaha by a 10-8 margin in the 3rd period, and by an overall margin of 46-17.
Cameron Korpi turned away 14 of Omaha's 17 shots on goal to collect the win in net for Tri-City. Mikhail Yegorov dropped the game in goal for the Lancers in a 40-save-on-46-shot effort. The Storm improved to 14-6-3-3 in games played against Western Conference competition this season in the win. Tri-City will travel to the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois next weekend for back-to-back road games against the Eastern Conference's Chicago Steel.
