Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (26-9-3-3, 58 pts) bounced back after a Friday-night loss to rout the Waterloo Black Hawks (25-14-0-1, 51 pts) 6-1 on Saturday night.
For the second-straight night, the Saints built a 4-1 advantage late in the second period. Differently than Friday night, the Fighting Saints added to their lead with two third-period goals to ice a comfortable win over the Hawks.
Dubuque began with a dominating start on Saturday night, outshooting Waterloo 11-2 in the first period. Late in the frame, Erik Påhlsson scored his 18th of the season after a puck bounced past Waterloo goaltender Jack Spicer. Early in the second, the Saints added to the lead when Joona Väisänen put the Saints up two.
A Hawks goal brought the game within one in the second, but Dubuque finished the third period emphatically. In the final three minutes of the second, Michael Barron scored his first of two goals in the contest and then Chase LaPinta scored a power-play goal. The pair of goals put the Saints up three into the third.
In the third, the Saints added Barron's second and Noah Powell's 22nd of the year. The goal was Powell's ninth power-play goal and the Saints cruised to a win.
Dubuque's penalty kill was excellent in the win, killing all six chances it had to keep Waterloo off the board. Kevin Reidler made 16 saves in his 17th victory of the season.
The Fighting Saints are back in action on Friday night at home against Cedar Rapids.
