Omaha Lancers News Release
KEARNEY, NE. - The Lancers closed out the weekend in Kearney to take on the Tri-City Storm after falling on home ice last night (2/9) by a score of 6-0 to the same Storm team.
The Lancers were able to get a puck past Tri-City Goaltender, Cameron Korpi at the halfway mark of the first period for Will Elger's eighth of the season. Nick Pierre tacked on a primary assist along with Nicholas Sykora tallying his first United States Hockey League point with the secondary.
Tri-City knocked in two goals late in the period off the sticks of Jack Rozzi and Vladislav Lukashevich to head into the locker room with Tri-City leading 2-1.
The second period consisted of dominate play by the Storm. Adding two more goals to their total to make it a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes.
Lukashevich was able to score his second of the night, ninth of the year with a one-timer off a feed from Trevor Connelly. Immediately followed by a tip-in goal from A.J. LaCroix to make it a three-lead at the halfway mark of the period.
Mikhail Yegorov was sharp between he pipes facing 36 shots through two periods of hockey and had the answer for 32 of them. Tri-City was on pace to put 50+ pucks on net for back-to-back nights.
Tri-City started the third period scoring with Rozzi picking up his second goal of the evening to take a four-goal lead, making it a 5-1 game for the Storm.
Moments later, Nick Pierre would collect a feed from Jamison Sluys and send a shot top-shelf on Korpi to pull the Lancers back within three goals. Making it Pierre's 14th goal of the season.
The three-goal margin did not last long as Artemi Nizameyev went bar-down on Omaha Goaltender, Mikhail Yegorov. And after a short video review, it was confirmed that Nizameyev tallied his 9th goal of the season and closed the scoring for Tri-City.
The Lancers would muster up one more goal on the night with another goal from Pierre. This time, forcing a defensive zone turnover, as Drew DellaSalla and Will Elger would set up Pierre for a perfect slap shot to make it a 6-3 game.
The Lancers had momentum late, but Tri-City closed out a 6-3 victory on home ice, out shooting Omaha 46-17 in the process.
The Lancers will be hitting the road next weekend for a pair of games with the Fargo Force. The series is set to begin on Friday, February 16th at 7:05PM CST at Scheels Arena. That game can be streamed on Mixlr and FloSports.
