Rewind: Recapping Friday's Action in the USHL

Muskegon 4, Youngstown 3 shootout

Muskegon won its third consecutive game, claiming a 4-3 shootout victory over Dubuque Friday night.

The host Lumberjacks held a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of action on goals from Cooper Pierson and Cody Croal.

Youngstown bounced back to tie the game on second-period tallies from Ryan Botterill and Grant Young.

Ryan Rucinski's goal at 3:09 of the third put the Phantoms up for the first time, but the game was sent into overtime when Ethan Whitcomb scored on the power play at 12:01.

Following a scoreless extra session, Muskegon outscored Youngstown in the shootout 3-2 to claim the win.

Chicago 4, Madison 1

Michael Hage scored twice in helping lead Chicago to a 4-1 win over Madison.

The win is the seventh in the last 10 games for the surging Steel.

Hage, who has extended his point-scoring streak to seven games during which he's racked up seven goals and six assists for 13 points, gave Chicago an early lead when he scored at 0:48 of the opening period. Michael Emerson made it 2-0 five minutes later and when Ronan O'Donnell scored for Madison at 7:10, the Steel held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.

Brady Arneson's first goal of the year, which came at 2:57 of the second, made it a 3-1 game and Hage scored into an empty net at the end of the third period to close out the win.

Christian Manz, who stopped 22 of 23 shots, got the win for Chicago.

Fargo 12, Sioux Falls 4

Fargo established a franchise record for goals in a game in claiming a 12-4 win over Sioux Falls Friday in Fargo.

The Force, who lead the league with a 34-5-2-0 record and have won five games in a row, were led by Mac Swanson and Michael La Starza, who both scored three times and assisted on four others for a team single-game record seven points each.

Zam Plante chipped in with two goals and three assists for a five-point game. Lee Parks, Jake Fisher, Iiro Hakkarainen and Merril Steenari also scored for the Force.

Hunter Anderson, Jaksen Panzer, J.J. Wiebusch and Joe Belisle replied for the Stampede.

Lincoln 5, Des Moines 4

Keaton Peters scored twice and had two assists in boosting Lincoln to a 5-4 home win over Des Moines Friday.

Nate Delladonna gave the Buccaneers an early 1-0 first-period lead, but after German Yavash and Peters scored for Lincoln, the Stars held a 2-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes of action.

Ryan Spinale and Jared Mangen tallied second-period goals for Lincoln and Ilya Protas had one for Des Moines and it was a 4-2 Stars lead at the end of the second.

Peters made it 5-2 when he scored at 5:16 of the final period and despite goals Liam Watkins and Davis Borozinskis, Lincoln was able to hold on for the win.

The win is the third in a row for the Stars who have gone 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 outings.

Waterloo 5, Green Bay 4

Myles Hilman's hat trick keyed Waterloo's 5-4 home win over Green Bay Friday.

Hilman, who has now tallied 15 goals in his last 15 games, got the ball rolling for the BlackHawks when he scored at 3:49 of the first. The Gamblers, however, led 2-1 at the end of the period on goals from William Hughes and Julian Lutz.

Hilman tied it with a power play marker midway through the second, but Green Bay regained the lead after Jayson Shaugabay scored two minutes later. Goals from Hilman and Gavin Lindberg made it Waterloo 4, Green Bay 3 at the end of 40 minutes of play.

Griffin Erdman's goal at 6:41 of the third made it a two-goal cushion for the Black Hawks. Charlie Russell scored for Green Bay with less than a minute remaining, but Waterloo was able to hold on the rest of the way and now have won for the fifth time in the last six games.

Cedar Rapids 5, Dubuque 4 overtime

Joe Schiller's overtime goal finished off a 5-4 come-from-behind victory for Cedar Rapids Friday.

Zack Sharp scored for the RoughRiders and James Reeder for the Fighting Saints and at the end of the first it was 1-1.

Dubuque took a three-goal lead in the second on goals from Seamus Powell, Gavin Cornforth and Chase LaPinta, while Benjamin Muthersbaugh's first USHL goal brought Cedar Rapids back within two before the end of the period.

Colin Grable and Loa Milfors scored for the RoughRiders in the third to force overtime.

Schiller, a second-year player who's committed to Northern Michigan, scored at 3:06 of the extra session to end the game. The goal is the first of his USHL career and gives Cedar Rapids head coach Mark Carlson his 780th career win. The USHL record for career coaching wins is 783 by P.K. O'Handley (North Iowa Huskies from 1991-98 and Waterloo Black Hawks from 2002-21).

Tri-City 6, Omaha 0

Blake Steenerson had a goal and two assists and Cameron Korpi stopped every shot he faced as Tri-City cruised to a 6-0 road win at Omaha Friday.

Steenerson's fourth goal of the year, which came at 2:48 of the first, staked the Storm to a 1-0 lead.

Tri-City took control of the game with a four-goal second period with Zach Bade scoring twice and AJ Lacroix and Cam Briere adding singles.

Briere's second goal of the game and 16th of the year in the third closed out the scoring in the game.

Korpi, who stands 18-8-1-1 for the season with the win, stopped 21 of 21 shots to pick up his second shutout of the season and the fourth of his career.
