Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Nashville, TN - Everett Teaford, Francisley Bueno and Brandon Sisk combined on a three-hitter in Omaha's 8-0 game one victory before Nashville bounced back with a 10-3 win in game two to earn a doubleheader split Saturday night at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers emerged from the twin bill with a 44-26 mark and saw their 10-game win streak, the franchise's longest since 1993, brought to a halt in the nightcap.
Marco Estrada started the opener for the Sounds and departed after three scoreless innings during which he allowed only one hit but walked four. Victor Garate took over and served up a three-run home run to Irving Falu, who matched his single-season career high with his fifth long ball, with two outs in the fourth that broke up a scoreless game.
The visitors dashed any hopes of a Nashville comeback with a five-spot in the seventh that included a two-run home run from Clint Robinson and an RBI hit from Derrick Robinson.
Teaford allowed three singles, walked one and struck out one over five frames to improve to 4-0. The left-hander did not allow a runner past second base and retired the final nine hitters he faced before giving way to Bueno, who retired the side in order in the sixth. Sisk set down all three hitters he encountered to close out the visitors fourth shutout of the season.
In the second game, Wil Myers slugged a solo home run the opposite way to right field in the third to put Omaha back in the lead at 2-1 but Nashville responded in the home half with an Andy Gonzalez scoring fly ball to even the count. The Sounds then took their first lead of the series in the fourth on a Jay Gibbons solo home run but it was short-lived, as Clint Robinson singled with two outs in the fifth to chase home Falu to get the game tied at three.
Omaha starter Will Smith was lifted after Jordan Brown's lead off single in the sixth and was replaced by Jeremy Jeffress. The Sounds inserted Corey Patterson as a pinch-runner and he made the move payoff by stealing second base and advancing to third on an errant throw by catcher Cody Clark. After a walk to Sean Halton, the Chasers elected to intentionally pass Gibbons to get to Jason Jaramillo, who watched as Jeffress uncorked a wild pitch that chased home Patterson with the go-ahead run.
Hainley Statia singled in a run and a Logan Schafer sacrifice fly extended the lead to three before Travis Ishikawa put the game out of reach with a three-run double. Smith suffered the loss after he allowed four runs on seven hits over five-plus innings while Jeffress was tagged for five runs after recording just one out.
Falu walked twice and scored a run in game two but went 0-for-2 and had his 18-game hitting streak come to an end.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon with Omaha left-hander Mike Montgomery taking the mound against Nashville right-hander Wily Peralta. Coverage of the game gets underway at 1:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone Two, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
