Round Rock, Tex. - One night after being shutout, the Oklahoma City RedHawks (41-28) came alive at the plate hitting three home runs in an 8-5 win over the Round Rock Express before 9,242 at The Dell Diamond Saturday night.
Similar to Friday, the RedHawks trailed early. Julio Borbon opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second, giving him his sixth straight hit over the last two games.
The RedHawks had been held scoreless for 12 straight innings until breaking through in the fourth. Angel Sanchez singled home Brad Snyder to cut into the Express' lead.
In the fifth, the RedHawks officially busted out of their mini-slump with five runs. Jimmy Paredes tied the game with an RBI single, and Scott Moore followed with a go-ahead sac fly.
Mike Hessman then hit a towering two-run shot off the top of the upper deck in left field for his 19th homer of the season. A few pitches later, Snyder left the yard as well to give the RedHawks their first back-to-back home runs of the season.
While the offense was coming alive, Armando Galarraga was settling into a groove on the mound. After giving up the homer to Borbon, Galarraga retired the final 10 hitters he faced. Still limited to a moderate pitch count, Galarraga (1-0) threw 67 pitches and allowed just three hits. He struck out one with no walks.
Aneury Rodriguez picked up where Galarraga left off to retire the first six men he faced, making it 16 straight for the RedHawks. Although Rodriguez would end up allowing two hits, he tossed three scoreless innings.
Landon Powell added a solo home run in the eighth to make it 7-2. Another run scored on a double play in the ninth to extend the lead to six runs.
The Express rallied for three runs in the ninth. Brad Nelson started the inning with a homer, and Matt Kata hit a two-run triple to pull the Express within three. Juan Abreu settled down and struck out Borbon to end the game.
The RedHawks will finish their series in Round Rock tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. when they face former longtime Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt. Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio mobile app.
