Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Jake Elmore doubled twice Saturday night, stretching his hitting streak to a new franchise record 25-straight games and helping spark a 9-4 Reno victory over the Tucson Padres at Aces Ballpark.
The first-place Aces remain one of Minor League Baseball's hottest teams, having won five-straight games and 12 of their last 13. Reno has won its fifth-straight series and is in position for its sixth series sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon.
The Aces trailed 3-0 early, but battled back with a run in the third and eight more between the fifth and seventh innings to collect the win-their seventh-straight over the Padres in 2012.
Patrick Corbin (3-1) earned the win for the Aces, scattering four runs-three earned-on 12 hits over 6.1 innings of work. Corbin struck out four and didn't walk a batter. After his exit, Sam Demel and Taylor Sinclair combined to keep the Padres off the scoreboard over the game's final 2.2 innings.
The loss fell to Tucson starter Matt Palmer (4-4) who surrendered four runs on eight hits over five innings.
Elmore's 25th-consecutive game with a hit topped the previous club record set last season by Tony Abreu. He now has also reached safely in a club record 40-straight games. Additionally, A.J. Pollock and Konrad Schmidt each recorded three hits and drove in three runs.
The Aces go for the series sweep on a special Father's Day matinee Sunday at Aces Ballpark. RHP Barry Enright (5-3, 4.89 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Tucson counters with RHP Bear Bay (0-3, 6.37 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT. It'll be another Renown Children's Hospital Family Funday, featuring Baseball Bingo.
