Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros have assigned defenseman Ben Storey to the Louisiana IceGators, while center Jamie Johnson has rejoined the IceGators from Aeros' camp. Storey and Johnson are expected to travel to Pensacola for this Friday and Saturday's pre-season games against the Ice Pilots. Also Thursday, the IceGators released forward Andress Chuchelov from his tryout agreement, leaving the team's training camp roster at 16, including two goalies.
Storey (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) enters his fifth overall pro season, fourth in North America. The 25-year-old Ottawa, Ontario native spent last season with ECHL Lexington, racking up 45 points (18g, 27a) and 105 penalty minutes in 62 games in his first full ECHL campaign. He also saw action in one post-season contest with Utah. Storey has spent two full seasons in the AHL with Hershey (1999-2000, 2000-01) and also played in Austria in 2001-02. Counting his European travels, Storey has 94 points (31g, 63a) and 299 penalty minutes in 220 games. Storey played collegiately at Harvard for four seasons. Storey was a fourth-round draft pick (No. 98 overall) of Colorado in 1996.
Johnson (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) was signed by Louisiana in September, and has attended camp with both Minnesota and Houston. The 21-year-old Port Franks, Ontario native comes from the OHL's Oshawa Generals, the same team that gave the IceGators All-Star Kevin Mitchell. In four junior seasons, the playmaking centerman posted totals of 249 points (55g, 194a) and 125 penalty minutes in 262 games played. Johnson was one of just six OHL players in 2002-03 to top the 100-point plateau, scoring 26 goals to go along with his 76 assists. His helper total was tied for second in the OHL.
Louisiana opens the season at Mississippi on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:35 p.m., before the Sea Wolves make a return trip for the IceGators' home opener Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:05 p.m. Individual tickets, starting at just $10 for adults and $9 for kids (ages 2-12 in any level) are now on sale at the Cajundome Box Office and Ticketmaster outlets.
