Express Signs Scatchard to Contract

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Express signed forward Doug Scatchard to a contract for the 2003-2004 season, it was announced today by Express Head Coach Tony MacAulay. Scatchard joined the team today, and will participate in tonight's preseason game vs. Greenville.

Scatchard, a native of Salmon Arm, British Columbia begins his first professional season this year after spending last year at Minot State University – Bottineau, which is located in North Dakota. While at the division three school, he tallied 13 goals and 17 assists in 17 games. The 22-year-old rookie, who's older brother Dave plays for the NHL's New York Islanders, opened the preseason in the Islanders' rookie training camp.

The Express plays its first preseason game on Thursday, October 9 at 8 p.m. against the Greenville Grrrowl at the Ice Station. Tickets are available to the general public for $5 and may be purchased at the Ice Station. The regular season opens on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. when the Express hosts the Long Beach Ice Dogs at the Roanoke Civic Center.
